Hebel Welding and Machine in New York State has manufactured doors for NYC subways and tanks for brew companies, and now it has taken a step toward remaining sustainable over the long haul with solar panels installed along the businesses’ two buildings. Carpenters expanded and reinforced the roofs on both buildings and the panels were installed with the help of a loan.
The business is now 100% solar power reliant, powering the entire shop for its work day and providing significant reductions in CO2 emissions.

Florida Students Certified to weld in 3 Months
The Pensacola State College Welding Program has really taken off, according to Dr. Ed Meadows, the college’s president.
“There’s a good and bad part about the welding program. The good part is that we have full classes, and we have high, high graduation completion rates. The bad part is that they’re getting jobs in Georgia, Mississippi, and Alabama,” he said.
Welding Training Center Set to Open
An international welding school is to hold classes this coming spring in the Cumberland Valley Business Park.
Officials broke ground this week for the Phenomenal Industries Welding Training Center at the corner of Coffey and Opportunity avenues in Greene Township.
Welding Students Volunteer for Zoo Project
A partnership between Randolph Community College and the N.C. Zoo continues to benefit the zoo elephants.
Eight RCC welding technology students and instructors delivered three new elephant feeders to the zoo’s elephant barn on Tuesday… RCC welding students have now made 14 feeders which allow the zoo’s six elephants to eat from adjustable off-the-ground outdoor and inside locations at their barn.

Philadelphia Trains Have Faulty Welds
“Officials may have finally tracked down the source of the problem that put more than 100 SEPTA regional rail cars out of service. The maker of the new Silverliner V trains says it's due to faulty welds.
That weld is part of the suspension system, and involved a load-bearing beam. Now that the problem's been identified, the train manufacturer, Hyundai Rotem, says two possible replacements beams are being considered.”
Colorado Fire Caused by Welding
A man welding a fence near Carter Lake was cited Friday after he sparked a 30-acre grass fire that forced residents from their homes southwest of Loveland.
Crews from across Northern Colorado were dispatched about 3:20 p.m. on reports of a grass fire burning near the 5500 block of West Larimer County Road 8E, southeast of Carter Lake. The fire, officially dubbed the Sedona Hills Fire, quickly blackened about 30 acres of land and briefly threatened several homes in the area, the Larimer County Sheriff's Office reported.
