Weekly Welding Roundup–Welding News

Hebel Welding and Machine in New York State has manufactured doors for NYC subways and tanks for brew companies, and now it has taken a step toward remaining sustainable over the long haul with solar panels installed along the businesses’ two buildings. Carpenters expanded and reinforced the roofs on both buildings and the panels were installed with the help of a loan.

A Close Up of Friction Welding

“Friction welding already looks out of this world. I mean, watching two pieces of metal forge together through friction as they turn bright space orange? Awesome. But seeing friction welding in slow motion? That’s when we find out how truly spectacular the process is. The little sparks flying off the metal blocks look like stars being formed.”

Is Aluminum Welding an Ideal Option for Shipbuilding?

Aluminum alloys have been used for many years in the shipbuilding industry. There are two characteristics that make them particular [sic] useful: their light weight and their corrosion resistance in marine environments.

Many people think aluminum is much more difficult to weld than steel. This really isn’t true, but many people who are familiar with welding steel try to carry old habits when they become involved with welding aluminum. This usually doesn’t work well and is responsible for the perception that aluminum is difficult to weld.
